Laughter. Conversation. Delightful Food.
'Meze' is Greek for appetizer or small plates of food. Traditionally, several different flavorful dishes are served at the beginning of the meal (and also can be the meal by themselves). One purpose of the meze is to create a backdrop for which a social gatherering takes place, little plates of enticing dishes are shared by everyone at the table. The main ingredient is storytelling and laughter that is paired beautifully with the mezes, family, and friends.
Mt. Vikos®: Authentic recipes, all natural ingredients, big flavors.
Traditional Feta Cheese is creamy, almost sweet (from the fresh milk), with a slight tang. Most people notice that Mt. Vikos Feta Cheese is not overly salty or harsh as most feta they have tasted.
Barrel-Aged Feta Cheese is creamy-crumbly and has a bit more complexity from the long barrel-aging, picking up more depth of flavor.
Fetiri Cheese with Greek Herbs and Fetiri Cheese with Cracked Pepper are delicious eating cheeses and work well on appetizer and cheese plates.
Halloumi Cheese is twice cooked and because it will not melt, it is ideal as a grilling or frying cheese. Fry 1/4-inch thick slices in a hot pan with a small amount of butter or oil for a few minutes until golden, turn and fry for one or two more minutes. Drizzle with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Serve with crusty bread.
Manouri Cheese is like a sheep's milk cream cheese, made by adding fresh sheep's milk cream to the whey left over from the feta cheese production. The sheep and goat's milk whey is boiled: sheep's milk cream is added. Enjoy with our glazed and roasted figs or with fresh berries and/or a drizzle of honey.
Kasseri Cheese is a semi-hard cheese with a rich, buttery flavor. This is the cheese used for the classic Greek hot appetizer 'Saganki', where the cheese is fried and served with either a shot of ouzo or fresh lemon. Try Mt. Vikos Kasseri Cheese in an omelet or a melted cheese sandwich.
Kefalotiri Cheese made in central Greece from fresh milk of free-ranging sheep and goats. Kefalotiri cheese is known for its distinctive, mild, salty flavor, and is a hard cheese, that can be grated on dishes or eaten as a meze with ouzo.
